Fascism: A Profile of George W. Bush

Is George Bush a Fascist?

Well, before the question can be answered, we need to know what, exactly a fascist is. Here is the definition of a fascist.

fascism |ˈfa sh ˌizəm| |ˌføˈʃɪzəm| |ˌfaʃɪz(ə)m| |-sɪz(ə)m| (also Fascism)
noun
an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
• (in general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.
Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach.

Now, let's see if GW fits the profile.
An authoritarian: He thinks that he is the one that knows best regardless of what anyone else thinks, (see his now famous comment, "I am the decider!"), that is authoritative if I have ever heard it. When he was contemplating invading Iraq, he ignored the reports that were given to him that said that there were no WMDs and that Saddam had nothing to do with Al'Quiada and 'decided' to invade anyway.

A belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group: This brings us back to the Iraq War. By trying to spread democracy, he is, in effect, saying that the American way of life is the best and that everyone should be in a democratic society. That would denote that our way of life is "better than' other ways of life and therefore 'superior', or supreme. It also denotes a certain intolerant view of others.

A contempt for democracy: George Bush has been strengthening the Executive branch in detriment to the Legislative and Judicial branches of government since he took office, even though the drafters of the Constitution set it up so that each branch was a check on the other two and would create a balance of power. GW has issued illegal executive orders that has totally bypassed the Judicial and Legislative branches, (see warrantless wiretapping as one example).

An insistence on obedience to a powerful leader and a strong demagogic approach. See above statement, "I am the decider!"

Even though in this country, we are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, with his policies, such as the aforementioned wiretapping, the instigation of a national ID card, (isn't that what Hitler did just before WWII?), we are now guilty, because we "might be" terrorists and have to prove we aren't to live in this country. Isn't that the same thing as shooting your neighbor because you think he "might" cause you harm?
His policies have fomented an atmosphere of paranoia and fear in this country. That is the path he has chosen to free himself up to consolidate his power base. As it always goes with this type of intimidation, the people are finally waking up and seeing what he is doing. The sad thing is that it took 4 years and over 3000 lives for them to come to that realization.

In response to the original question; According to the dictionary and his own actions, Bush is indeed a fascist. He is now in the same league as Mussolini and Hitler.
